Fête à la Cour de Cléopâtre

Also on the left side of the hallway is a print of Antony and Cleopatra. It reads: “Cleopatra entertained Antony with new fete galas, parties, to make him forget Rome and his own glory." During 1850-70's in England and France, there was a return to the Classical past, drawing inspiration and design that was displayed in architecture, painting and furniture styles. This print, as well as the one of Mary Queen of Scots on the other side of the room, fits into this period of art. Egyptian revival in art was common during and after the reign of Napoleon, and showcases earlier art movements of the 19th century.
