Imari China

Imari ware or china is a brightly colored style of Japanese porcelain. The underglaze for these pieces is typically blue, with gold, red, and black being used for the intricacies of the design. Most pieces are floral and opulent, leading some to consider the style overly busy. Some designs also include different animals and even people. These dishes were created for large exports in the 17th Century, and left out of the port Imari, hence the name. The style has changed and developed across continents and years, with an especially strong resurgence in the 19th Century. In present day, patterns such as these are still quite popular among collectors.
